Corporate Social Responsibility.

From its origin as a luxury property developer, Fairway Holdings has evolved over the past decade into a conglomerate engaged in a wide range of commercial activities. However we are very conscious of the importance of the arts and culture to our country as a civilizing influence it sorely needs. Accordingly we have made several significant initiatives in this regard. Chief among them is our title sponsorship since 2015 of the world acclaimed “Fairway Galle Literary Festival”. The “Fairway National Literary Awards” inaugurated in 2015, is a companion piece to the Fairway Galle Literary Festival. We are also the sponsors of the Chamber Music Society of Colombo and Soul Sounds.

The Fairway Galle Literary Festival (FGLF) is one of the most anticipated literary events since it provides literary enthusiasts the opportunity to meet, converse and interact with internationally acclaimed authors from all over the world.

The beauty and alluring charm of the heritage site of Galle contribute in no small way to the uniqueness of this experience. The relaxed ambiance of Galle provides the perfect backdrop for the festival.

The objectives of this renowned festival are to celebrate the English language, to encourage writers in Sri Lanka to write, to encourage debate, to promote Galle and the Serendip coast between Galle and Tangalle.

Since its inception it has grown enormously. It is no longer just a literary festival; it has films, lunches, poetry at tea time, private affairs involving world famous authors, gourmet dinners, events for schools, university students, two literary prizes, a Galle art trail, concerts, jazz events, cabarets, walks, a festival outreach initiative, and a comprehensive fringe programme, to name a few.

The Fairway National Literary Awards

The Fairway National Literary Awards (FNLA) originated as a companion piece to the internationally acclaimed Fairway Galle Literary Festival in 2015, the same year Fairway Holdings became the title sponsor of the Fairway Galle Literary Festival.

We believe that as a nation, it is important to promote peace and harmony among various communities belonging to different ethnicities. FNLA strive to recognise literary excellence in writers from all three languages.

We, and especially our Chairman, Hemaka de Alwis, are very conscious of the importance of the arts and culture to our country as a civilising influence, which it sorely needs.

The Fairway National Literary Awards reward novelists in all three languages: Sinhala, Tamil, and English, with a substantial cash prize awarded to the winner of each language category and for each short-listed author of each language category.

The main objective of this Award is to encourage and inspire upcoming local authors by creating a platform on which they can achieve island wide recognition, and thus promote the arts and culture of our country as well. This Award also promotes the publishers of the winning entries by giving them podium recognition.

FNLA was held as an independent event for the first time in Colombo in November 2018. This was the fourth consecutive year for FNLA. With the number of submissions continuously increasing each year, the Awards have grown in terms of both recognition and prestige.

The Fairway English Creative Writing Workshop organised by Fairway Holdings was conceptualised with the aim of equipping participants with invaluable advice and guidance for their passion in creative writing.

The event drew a crowd of over 100 participants and enthusiasts for a two-day workshop, conducted by an eminent resource panel focusing on novel writing, short story writing, poetry, script-writing, editing and publishing.

The positive feedback of both the participants and the distinguished resource panel throughout the last three years, left us in no doubt of the success of this initiative.
The sessions were conducted in a very interactive manner and included presentations, handouts, videos and short exercises. Participants arrived from as far away as Batticaloa and Galle and spent a pleasant and informative two days learning and polishing their writing skills. Due to limited seating in, registrations were limited to 120 participants for all three years.

Being a visionary artist, activist and educator, her relentless drive has spurred her to explore and build connections between music and the human experience. Midori, along with a pianist and seven of her students conducted a series of workshops and master classes, and engaged with Sri Lankan music students and teachers. They also played classical music for those who normally would never have access to it by visiting numerous homes and institutions. The group, along with members of the CMSC visited the North and South of the country and held workshops with young musicians of those regions.

Community Development

Fairway Holdings believes that development should begin from the very early stage, and we need not look far to find those who are deserving.
This is why we work closely with families and children who are close to our proximity, because we want to build their lives that will ensure a bright future for them.

Fairway Sacred Heart Nursery The Fairway Sacred Heart Nursery was established in 2010 to benefit the low income families who live in the area surrounding the Fairway Holdings Head office, in Rajagiriya. The 20 students who are enrolled are guided by four dedicated teachers.

Stationary Distribution The project that commenced in 2011 has been continuously conducted annually. Around 700 students from Grades 1 to 12 are selected from low income families in the neighbourhood. Fairway purchases the entire stationary list issued by the government for these children, which adds to an approximate value of LKR 3,000,000 per annum.";
